Help us make a difference in your community
Volunteering for the Lib Dems in Lewes can mean helping us bundle leaflets once a week, putting up a Lib Dem poster in your window, or even carrying out a placement in one of our offices. Hear from a few of our wonderful volunteers and sign-up below.
Sue Ann
As a long-term supporter of the Liberal Democrats, I’m glad to have the opportunity to play a small part in the party’s local activities. The tasks are varied and the office is a fun place to volunteer.
Tuesday is my day in the office, and I can be addressing and stuffing envelopes, bundling leaflets or doing other similar clerical tasks. Getting the party’s message out there really does start with the basics! Everyone focuses on the tasks at hand, but there is always time to catch up on what’s happening locally and on a national level.
I would encourage anyone with a few hours to spare to join the enthusiastic team in Lewes.

Hey! I’m Alex, a student from Seaford. I’m sure I speak on behalf of many young people when I say that making a meaningful difference during such challenging times often seems impossible, particularly for those of us from working class backgrounds that perhaps have previously lacked the confidence to get involved in the world of politics directly.
After getting in contact with the Lewes Lib Dems, I was lucky to organise a two month full-time placement with the party. Working with both the Campaigns’ Office and the MP’s team has been an incredible experience, particularly as I have been responsible for a range of challenging projects.
My interests include social mobility and education, the climate crisis and social justice. Local politics is crucial and, in my opinion, deeply underestimated as a platform from which to enact change. I hope more young people will consider supporting the Lib Dems in their work in the Lewes constituency.
Edwina
I’ve had a long career in heritage, education, communities and nature conservation and, for me, being involved with the Lib Dems is one of the best ways to take action on the things I care about. I think I started with a few leaflets, then got involved in events, and now I am honoured to be not just a town councillor but also the Chair of the Executive! The great pleasure of volunteering is knowing that every task, however small, is doing something positive to help us all build the better, fairer and more liberal society that we all believe in. Sometimes the problems in the world can seem overwhelming – world politics, threats to our environment, struggles with healthcare - but if you can get that leaflet through a letterbox, then you are part of an essential chain of actions that leads to better representation locally and a strong liberal democrat voice in Parliament, accessible around the world. Not bad for an hour’s work – and you can get those steps in too!
There are lots of other jobs we can all do for the Lewes Liberal Democrats, ranging from active jobs like running events and canvassing on doorsteps, to cosy armchair tasks like helping to get our social media posts heard or proofreading our leaflets. If you’d like to help, either regularly or just from time to time, we need you! You’ll get a warm welcome and enjoy the wonderful satisfaction of knowing that every task, small or large, will be making a difference.
