Banking Hubs

The loss of our remaining full-service high street banks in towns such as Lewes and Seaford marks the end of an era. It will hit local businesses, charities, older residents and those without digital access - leaving many without the support they rely on.

In response, I’m working with the local Liberal Democrats to protect access to banking services by campaigning for banking hubs in our community. We are urging our town councils to work with LINK, the UK’s main ATM network, to make this happen. These hubs bring together shared services from major banks, ensuring residents and traders can still access cash, banking advice and essential face-to-face support.

It’s simply not good enough for our towns to be left without proper banking facilities. With almost nothing left locally between Eastbourne and Brighton, residents, charities and businesses are being abandoned. I’ve spoken with many who are seriously worried about how they’ll manage, and it’s clear this situation is unacceptable.

While these closures are commercial decisions made by the banks themselves, there are practical alternatives we can fight for. Banking hubs have already worked successfully in nearby Hailsham, and they offer the best way to keep vital services within reach.

That’s why the Liberal Democrats have launched petitions calling for hubs in Lewes, Seaford and Newhaven to ensure we don’t lose everyday banking access altogether. You can find out more and add your name here:
